What it is

After a stay you can send the guest a short rating request. The guest taps one of five stars, straight from the email. Guests who rate you at or above your threshold go directly to your Google review page. Guests who rate you below it get a private comment box, and what they write is shown only to you on the booking.

Ratings and comments stay inside Checkinea. Nothing is published anywhere.

Setting it up

  1. Open the property's Ratings tab.
  2. Paste your Google review link. Find it in your Google Business Profile under "Ask for reviews". Only Google addresses are accepted.
  3. Pick the rating threshold: the lowest star score that counts as positive. The default is 4 stars.

You can send requests without a Google link. Positive guests then see a plain thank-you page instead, and the first time that happens we email you once to remind you to add the link.

Sending a request

On any booking, from check-in day onward, tap Request rating. The request goes to the lead guest: the first guest who completed online check-in, or the booking's contact email if nobody checked in through Checkinea. Spanish-speaking guests get it in Spanish, everyone else in English. The booking then shows "Requested on" with the date.

Each booking gets one request, ever. There are no reminders and no follow-up messages, and the email says so.

If a property has a channel connection and the option send via OTA message thread is on, the request goes into the guest's Airbnb or Booking.com message thread as text with a link. When that fails, or for direct bookings, it falls back to email.

The button is disabled when the booking has no guest email to send to.

What the guest sees

  • 4 or 5 stars (with the default threshold): the rating is saved and the guest lands on your Google review page.
  • 1 to 3 stars: the rating is saved, the guest can leave a comment for you, and the thank-you page still shows a small link to your Google page. Nobody is prevented from reviewing you.
  • Opening the link again later shows the thank-you page. A stay is rated once.

The rating link works for 30 days after the request is sent.

Staying informed

The rating and any comment appear on the booking. You also get an email per rating according to Settings → Notifications → Guest ratings: for every rating, only for ratings below your threshold (the default), or never.

A note on Google's rules

Google asks businesses not to discourage negative reviews. Checkinea keeps the Google link visible on every version of the rating page, so every guest can review you. The difference is emphasis: happy guests are taken there directly, unhappy guests are first offered a private word with you. We recommend replying to what they write and fixing what you can. You remain responsible for how you use reviews under Google's policies.
