Security deposits on Checkinea
Why you're seeing this page
Hosts who use Checkinea can ask their guests for a security deposit to cover damage or other costs allowed under their booking's terms. That deposit is handled through Stripe, via the host's own Stripe account — not Checkinea's. If you've noticed a charge, a hold, or a reference to Checkinea on your card or statement, this is why.
Holds vs. charges, in plain language
A hold reserves an amount on your card without charging you. If your stay goes smoothly, the hold is released automatically and you never see a charge. A charge only happens if the host needs to cover damage or another cost covered by your booking's terms.
Who's responsible for what
The deposit is an arrangement between you and the host, under the terms of your stay. Checkinea provides the software that makes holding — and, if needed, charging — the deposit possible; we aren't a party to that agreement and don't decide whether a charge is justified. Any question about a specific charge or hold should go to the host first.
